Ted - If you've got experience wiring machine tools, you'll find rewiring a Farmall is a snap!! You've described a 4-position light switch (consistant with 1947 model year). Your tractor was orginally supplied with a generator cutout (thus the 4 position switch) but someone later swapped it for a voltage regulator. The regulator not original, but makes for improved electrical system performance. Punch below for a diagram that shows how the system should be wired up. Also your light switch has gotta be wired incorrectly. Lights should work like this: All lights off in the first two switch positions (L and H positions). Front lights dim and the rear bright in the 3rd position (D). All 3 lights should burn bright in the last (H) position. Hope this helps! If you have more questions email me back offline. ...Bob M
