I started metal casting as a hobby after buying a small foundry furnace and equipment from a high school that was discontinuing their hot metal programs. I have since retired from my regular job and do only casting and machining for my income. The thing is I now make more at this then I had at my regular job before retiring. I do mainly antique items for cars, fire trucks and tractors. Since most larger foundries won't bother with small quantities or complicated items the field is wide open. There are alot of people that will pay the price if you will do the work. I friend once said "never reproduce things that some else is already doing". Which is true, since there are so many items that people want and aren't being done. My 2 cents.
