Forgot to say, the regulator must have a good ground to work propery. If you have a new paint job that can be a problem. Good to check the resistance to ground of the base of the regulator with a meter. Set the meter to resistance and put one contact to the base of the regulator and the other to a good bare metal ground on the tractor, or better directly to the battery ground terminal. You should bet a resistance of near zero, no more than 0.3 ohms.
