I'm going to be straight with you. I have know of a 1066 with a 466, but I don't think you'll ever find me putting a 414 in an 856. Doesn't compare on so many levels, although it would probably fit. I farm, so I know where you're coming from, but i don't think any repair on that engine (I don't know what your major problem is; Roger Welsh has told me that a tractor engine is never ruined, froze, or junk) will cost as much as you think. Now, i understand, OH, new everything, labor could run you 4,000. I suppose you have a 915 laying around with a 414, so it would be common sense. The 915 came with the 407 and later the 414, same time as tractor switch, too. Actually, to go back on my word, if I could really save two or three thousand dollars, I would switch. Like Hugh said, though, those engines are superior. If you decide to put the 414 in, please, give the 407 to IH Brad. That block shall not go to waste. Good luck.
