What is the condition of your air intake system? Do you operate in dusty conditions a lot? When was the last time that you serviced your air cleaner? You may have "Dusted" your engine by ingesting a lot of dirt into the intake manifold. This can either be due to a dirty or dry oil bath air cleaner, a leak between the air cleaner and the intake, or leaking manifold. Sometimes when this happens, it effects some cylinders worse than others, due to the air flow characteristics of the intake. In your case, the dirt could have been sucked into the two center cylinders first, since they are closest to the inlet of the intake. This would cause the rings and liners to be damaged in 2 and 3, and not as bad in 1 and 4. The same could apply to the overfuel situation that the other guys mentioned. In either case there should be a lot of exhaust smoke. Black smoke is overfueling and points to the carburetor. Blue smoke is oil, and points towards bad rings and an overhaul. Check for the overfuel first, look at the smoke when there are clean plugs in 2 and 3, and check your air induction system. If you do an overhaul, make sure that your air induction system is OK before running the newly overhauled engine. Good Luck!
