piston/sleeve size

I have a 1955 IH400 that my Dad bought new and has been in the family since. Tonight we took the head off and measured the pistons and found that we had 4 1/8" plus the sleeve. Stock is 4". I remember Dad overhauling it many years ago. Dad is sure that he did not have it bored out. It looks like he put a 450 piston/ sleeve set in. I didn't know that we could get a 4 1/8"piston with a sleeve without doing a bore job. The piston top had two approximately 1 1/4" square flat knobs sticking up 1/4". The word "front" with a arrow was also on the top of the piston. Can anyone help with some answers?? Thanks alot for your help.
