The M had a C–248, which when they came out they, had 3 7/8” piston in them. You could install a 4” piston in that engine. The Super M and the early 400’s had a C–264 engine that came out with a 4” piston and 1 1/8” wrist pin. Both these engine came out with steel pistons. The later 400’s had a 1” wrist pin in a C–264 engines with a 4” aluminum piston. The 450’s came out with a 4 1/8 aluminum piston in a C-281 engine. With the sleeves removed from the C-264 and the C-281 engines the bore in the block was the same and actually both blocks(C-264 and C-281) have the same part #. The C-248 engine had a 1/8” smaller bore. John In Iowa
