Ive had alts check out fine but were bad.Not reaaly bad,just not putting out enough to keep it charged.But since it is doing it sitting there,I would venture to guess that you dont have something wired up right,not neccesarily your fault,or there is a dead short somewhere.Do this,with the tractor off disconnect the battery cable and see if you get a spark on the post.I know this is not too safe but it will tell you if you have a dead short.If it sparks you have a dead short or something is not wired right.
