I have found that the float height given in the shop manual is a good place to start but it's more accurate to use the "standpipe method". Put a fitting in the drain hole that will accept a piece of plastic tubing (see through or translucent) turn the tube up 180 degrees and turn on the gas. The fuel will seek the same level in the tube as in the bowl, then measure the fuel height rather than relying on the float setting in inches. I rebuilt a Cub this winter, set the float by the book and gas leaked big time. I used the tube method and discovered that the fuel level was very high in the bowl when the float was set "by the book"
