Kelly when you purchase any used tractor you never really know the condition of anything until you pull it a part and inspect it. If you are planning on restore this 300 (I have a 300F & 300U)especially after finding water in the crank case I would start dismateling the whole tractor. If this tractor has been sitting out side for an extended period it probably has water in the trans/rear housing also. Water can migrate past the trans/rear housing top platform. In any case I would want to check the condition of all the trans and rear end gears, clean and replace with new lube. The engine I would tear it clear down and rebuild it. Sleeve and pistons are pretty reasonable for the 300. When apart it is pretty enexpensive to have the head magnafluxed and pressure tested and rebuilt (less than 300 bucks). After you get it all back together you will know your tractor inside and out and it will be reliable. Every time you starter up you'll want to give her a big hug.
