You probably need to polarize the generator. Do this (with the tractor NOT running) by taking a short piece of wire and momentarily connect the regulator terminal marked "arm" or "gen" and the "bat" terminal. All you need to do is just touch the two terminals. There will be a small spark. Be carful not to touch any other terminals as you may ruin the generator, or the voltage regulator. Also, you need to check that the base of the regulator has a good ground. If you have a fresh paint job, that can be enough insulation to keep the base from grounding. The regulator mounting base must have a good ground for the system to charge. Another check is to ground the field terminal of the generator with the tracto running. If the generator is working, it will charge when the field terminal is grounded.
