Dan, I ran two engine crank case flushes through my 46 H before I disassembled for restoration. This will begin loosening the old stuff. Still had years of baked on and dried sludge but it was a good start. Once the valve cover and oil pan were off I used many wrags of kerosene to clean the rest off inside of engine. You will then need to rebuild the oil pump as the inside will be filled with the same sludge. A couple back-to-back oil changes once you have it all together will remove more of the particles that were missed when cleaning. These old engines are good runners. Once you have the valve cover off and oil pan off would also be a good time to take head off and clean thoroughly as well as see what pistons and rod bearings look like. It has been awhile but I seem to remember the compression for the H was around 80 psi. Good luck!
