Bill, the original power steering setup for the 300U required a special regulator, safety, and flow control valve which is different from the one used on the tractors which came without power steering. This valve is the one in the rear next to the hydraulic fluid reservoir with no control valve handle coming out of it. You probably don't have it, but will need it in addition to the cover you're talking about to make the power steering work the way IH originally intended. Of course, a kludge is possible if necessary. Take a look at the valve you've got and see if it's got plugged holes and such in the top, bottom, and rear. If so, that's the one used with power steering (valve body is part #364842R or #364844R); the one used with non-power-steering tractors was #360622R. Send me an email if you've got more questions. I may be able to help with parts, also.
