Tim: I don't know whether I count or not as I will not be planting or harvesting any corn this year. I guess we can assume cob corn is harvested for the most part for on farm feeding. 27 years ago I put my first combine type 2 row corn head on a New Holland 890 forage harvester and equiped it with recutter screens for coarse in field grinding. Within 3 years I was using combine and running cylinder up in 1,000 rpm range, twice the normal rpm for corn and running concave at about 5/8 ". This will break cob and put it all in grain tank. The material then went to the 890 being used as a stationary grinder and was still stored as high moisture grain. Two main reasons for adding combine were; wind adversly affected material flow from forage harvester to wagon, and secondly 6 row combine was feeding 1066 tractor and 890 instead of 2 rows. Your idea is from the past, let it die. I have a bit of a story for you. I love sauerkraut. I decided to make some . I found a slicer, so decided to make several 5 gal pails. I would sell the excess at competive rates. People raved about what a great job I did on my first try at making sauerkraut. They would be expecting more next year. Only one problem, Tim, I only made 50 cents per hour for my time. I leave this with you.
