I am having the same problem with a 1566 - sometimes will stay in 2nd sometimes goes between 1st & 2nd and sometimes between 2nd & 3rd. Pull the cover off and check the slider gears - you will probally find that the ends of the teeth are worn off. You will have to split tractor to replace the gears oc call 402-374-2203 - they have a different cam that will move the slider futher onto the gears and will work without replacing the gears. I have one ordered - figured is easer than splitting the tractor.
