Can somebody shed some light on a problem that I'm having with the transmission in a 1586. The problem that I'm having it's hard to find 2nd gear. The shift lever feels good when shifted, nice and smooth with three detents like it is suppose to have. The problem is when shifted to 2nd gear and you let out the clutch the shifting lever jumps towards 3rd gear and the tractor does not move. Third gear works just fine. I know that the same shift fork and shift collar is used in 3rd gear so I not sure what to do next. Tomorrow, I'm planning on pulling the shifter cover off or does somebody think that will be a waste of time and I should just plan on splitting the transmisssion to replace the shifter collar and the drive gear. Thanks for your help.

I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
