FC: While I can realize a lot of your frustration. I also see some problems. First in most jurisdictions land up to 20' (and this varies) from waters edge of a mapped stream is considered public property. You are also right about law enforcment catching violaters. There is also some merrit in getting along with these people, or I should say some of them. I always posted signs saying if you would like to use or cross my property kindly come to the farm house for permission. I always had a policy of letting everyone that asked go and booting those who didn't off. You will find those who ask whether it be for fishing, walk in the country, etc. They become very valuable allies. I had one area on my farm very popular fishing spot. I had a roadway along a stream to back side of field for transporting fertilizer, crops, etc. I didn't live close thus couldn't see what was going on when not there. Pepole knew I didn't mind them using roadway. Some people started getting off road with vehicles. I went to one of the seniors who fished there a lot, I said Braydon," here is my problem, some people are straying from roadway, you don't want a gate and I don't want a gate as we would both have to unlock and open it." He replied, "leave it with me." I never saw another tire mark in my fields again. The moral of this, you can watch your house, outbuildings and lot, however you cannot police acerage by your self. You can either hire help or find it by good will.

While this may have been the bread and butter of the belt work in the past (since this is what made the money on many farms), the smaller tasks may have been and still can be its real claim to fame. The thresher would bring in the harvest (and income) once a y
