I had a similiar problem with a Gas 350. Turned out the carb was running extremely rich and flooding-fouling the plugs. It took forever to diagnose because I tried adjusting the set screw a quarter of turn at a time with no effect, then I tried to lean it out till it quit and ended up turning it 4 or 5 full turns. Has run great every since.
