I don't know about that paint, either. Could be that IH painted yellow over red like you say, but I really have no idea. The biggest clue that yours is an Industrial model is that the headlights are in the grill. I've seen other IH Industrial tractors with that same setup. The few 606 Utility (non-Industrial) tractors I've seen have the same grill as 404, 504, 706 and early 656 Row-Crop tractors, and had the headlights to the side of the grill. The cut of the sheetmetal and clamshell fenders on your tractor definetly mean it is a 06 series, if it has a D-236 six-cylinder glow-plug start diesel engine and a 5-speed transmission, then there is no doubt that it is a 606 or 2606. 606 was a good tractor, but with those old glow-plug diesels, you need to have the batteries, battery cables, and glow plugs in exellent condition. You need to use the glow plugs even in the warmest weather, on a 70-degree day give them at least 30 seconds if not more. on a cold day you may need to give them 2 minutes. That's just the way they are.

"It's a tough little tractor, although it's a hard starter being a diesel and all." He did manage to get it running, compliments of a can of ether. Once started it putted along pretty good. It
