Interesting point ET on the bulb placement, one of my F12's has had the gauge moved to the front and mounted on the side of the radiator so the bulb could be placed in the water outlet going to the radiator this gives a more accurate reading of the water temp in the block but it also doesn't have a shutter set up. This was done by the first owner and in which he had to drill and tap the hole for the temp bulb in the water outlet. However, in defense of IH's placement of the bulb was for of the shutter control. On modern trucks with shutters the control stat gets it's readings at the inlet or return side so the shutters are automaticly opened if returning coolant is too hot or closes if it is too cold. So to more accuately control the shutter settings on an F-12 or F-14 the operator had to watch returning water temp. So shutters and water temp gauges went together. I think gauges were only placed on tractors that had shutters and duel fuels.
