Don - I recommend first you double check all your wiring - make sure everything is properly connected. If it still doesn't work there's at least couple possibilities:

1 - Your new switch is not properly grounded to the ammeter box, or the box is not grounded to the tractor. If your tractor has a cutout relay the light switch MUST be solidly grounded for the generator to work.

2 - The new switch itself is bad.

The above presumes you have a cutout. To verify pull off the cover and take a look. If there's only a single relay inside it's a cutout. If there's two relays, then it's a regulator and it's operation is unaffected by light switch, ammeter box ground etc. Suggest you then punch below and follow the chart through to isolate the problem.
