The 06, 26, and 56 tractors had the best diesel engines IH ever built. Most 706 Diesels and all 656 Diesels had the D-282, good engine in it's day, mabey a little small for the 706. Later 706's and the 756 had the D-310 German diesel, which will last forever. The 826 had the D-358 German diesel, same thing as a 310, just more stroke, will also last forever. 806 and 1206 had the 361 (turbocharged in the 1206) and the 856, 1256, 1456, and 1026 Hydro had the 407 (turbocharged in the 1256, 1456, and 1026). The 361 and 407 were basically the same engine, and they were easily the best diesel engines IH built. They will outlast anything. With 280 acres, you will be very dissapointed with the gas engines these tractors have. They are the biggest gas hogs around.
