Jim: Here is what I found. I know my SA and 130 have original engines, knowing the history since new. I do not know the history of 140. My SA tractor serial number is 336977 and engine serial number is 338597 which is in order as we know the letter series tractors. My 130 tractor serial number is 9313 J and engine serial number is 56651. My 140 tractor serial number is 22157 J and engine serial number is 102230. It in some way looks as though C-123 engines had there own identification, starting with the number series tractors. That doesn't completely line up either but then we have no figures on C-123 engines used as stationary engines or in swathers, etc. Perhaps someone can enlighten us on this subject as it looks to me as though your 140 and my 130 and 140 are in some sort of sequence. I personally think our 140s have original engines and specs will be as called by IH. The J by the way stands for Rockford clutch. One item we need is someone up on casting codes as to year of manufacture. I think A is 56, B is 57, C is 58, etc. Charles Norwood we need your help straighten us out on casting codes and where on engine block do we find them.
