Gary,
There's a guy down the road a way who has had a rusty, old C sitting out all winter with a bucket upside down over the muffler. That's probably a better deal than the cap as the wind does lift those things. They also make a lot of noise at low engine speeds. A few days ago I drove by where the old C lives and was glad to see the guy had erected a kind of inverted U shaped tent over the old tractor. I imagine it will be happier -- I know I was to see the old machine was sheltered. Mine old guys are in the barn, where the main danger it droppings from the barn swallows. Sometimes you can't win.
