Fred - I packed the steering box on my SH with good quality wheel bearing grease several years ago. Did this after new shaft seals did not completely cure an oil leakage problem. Have since found it steers just as easy at 0 degrees as it does when it's 95. And it's never leaked a drop of grease. I don't see no reason why STP won't work in the steering box. However if gear oil wants to leak past the gearbox seals, would seem that STP will too - though perhaps not as fast. Also the STP that does get out is gonna make a sticky mess wherever it winds up. My recommendation is to use good grease and not worry about the steering getting stiff when it gets cold!
