Diana: You must live within 100 miles of Lake Erie, as that rain is whats been happening since March all over the region. Those tractors were 6 volt positive ground with the gas engines. The diesel was 12volt from new, probably Neg ground as the next series being the 460-560 were. That Wheatland manual is going to throw you a bit as items around platform and hitch will be a bit different. The hard shifting tells me your clutch and TA are out of adjustment. Don't let that one go too long. You said you weren't very big so that shifting alone will play you out. That tractor can be made to shift easily. The clutch pedal on utilities will be stiff, as you don't have sam mechanical advantage as on the Farmall. Get fenders for it your husband is right. I much rather people die of old age, as your father in law. I had nine tractors and four trucks on my farm at same time, as many as a dozen employees and never had a lost time accident. SAFETY IS NUMBER ONE.
