I had a similar problem on my 806. Occasionally the fuse would blow. I traced it to one of the wires near the ignition switch. There are many wires near the ignition switch, and they are positioned close to the tractor frame. Due to rubbing against the frame, the insulation on one of the wires had worn through and was shorting out on the tractor frame. I taped the wire up and then glued in a piece of plastic shim stock on the frame to further help insluate that area. No problems any more. It is strange that you did not mention that your fuse did not blow. surely with the kind of amps that your short caused, the fuse should have blown.
