Mostly it is from the straight cut gears, (spur). It the bearings are all good and adjusted correctly, the whine is normal. The whine is esentially eliminated when helical cut gears are used. Helical cut gears are not available for this transmission though. The "noise" is mostly from the transmission, ring and pinion, and not usually from the spider gears. Spider gears only turn when one of the rear wheels turns faster then the other, as in turning a corner or when one wheel spins from lack of traction.
