They were built to Austrailian specs- they had their own engineering department down there too. The Great Britian and Austrailian companies both got the IH US M prints, some tooling, and originally parts, and then the tractors branched out from there so that local content was added. The idea of producing the M and W-6 family tractors was that local production avoided the customs duty on either whole tractors or parts coming into the country, as well as having scarce dollars leave the country (a major issue for the British Commonwhealth countries after WWII). Stuff that could be built locally, or that could be purchased from local suppliers, tended to be the first non-IH US stuff added, then as tooling was aquired to build more complicated parts locally, the tractor eventually became more locally sourced- IHGB went all GB within 2 years, I think the Aussies kept some IH US content, but I'm not sure about that. In fact, IH built tractors were sometimes produced without specific parts that could be added locally- tires were a big one, lots of export tractors were built without tires.
