1948 Farmall Cub PTO

I am new to making repairs on my tractor. I have a 1948 Farmall Cub and have a problem with the PTO. I have a mower attachment with a belt pulley. When I engage the PTO, the pulley will start to drive the mower and then the PTO will slip and the mower will lose power. Can someone help me with this problem? This is the first time I have encountered this with my tractor. I would appreciate any advice concerning how to correct this problem.
