I can't help you with the axle leaks, but I just replaced the pto seal on my M. I first parked it front end facing down hill. That way you don't need to drain any fluid out. Just remove the four bolts and the housing holding the seal with come right off. I then used a large round dowel to remove the seal from the housing and took it to my IH dealer and he had one the next day. The local bearing and seal place didn't carry or could get them. One hint about putting it back in. Drive the seal in almost to where the old one was, so that it doesn't hit the same place as the old one on the pto shaft. The shaft usually has a groove cut in it from rubbing on the seal.
