The timing marks on these old tractors are a bear to find. Most old mechanics will time it by ear. You do about the same thing with the idle mixture screw. Turn it in until it starts to run rough then back it out about 1/2 turn. It may take several attempts to do this since you are adjusting two things at once. The timing should be a "one adjustment" but wouldn't hurt to check it again after adjusting the carburetor. Check to make sure that it runs good a full throttle. You can get a feel for how it is running by riding the brakes a little while starting out in 5th gear. Not scientific but will give you an indication as to what kind of an 'attitude' it has.
