Kevin: I have to agree with Bob, either the starter drive or the ring gear or both are cause of problem. There are two types of starter drives for these; the old bendix type and a clutch type. The originals were bendix and the never worked very well for long. For the most part you would have thought these would have disappeared by now, the clutch type being so much better. For price reasons I guess they haven't I have a SA, 130 and 140 so starters will interchange. I can tell you from experence clutch type starter drive will work where the bendix will not. because of wear on ring gear. It also works much better on a perfect ring gear also. Another item is make sure your 6 volt system has heavy enough battery cables. Poor or too light cables on tractor can cause starter drives not up to snuff to act up.
