A boneyard is the cheapest source for a replacement steering worm and gear. The risk of course is the replacement gear set will be no better than the one you've got now. Your CIH dealer can supply new parts, but they're gonna be costly - probably $200 - $250 range - maybe more. If you are lucky the pivot shaft worm gear will be a full gear - with teeth all the way around. By removing the gear, turning it 180 deg and putting it back on the shaft, you'll bring fresh, unworn teeth into contact with the worm. However most of the H's I've looked messed with have had a half moon-shaped gear. This half moon gear has just enough teeth to rotate the pivot shaft between it's left and right stops. The gear cannot be turned to bring fresh teeth into contact with the worm. Suggestion: Before you buy some expensive gears, check carefully both the upper end of the pivot shaft, also the worm shaft for looseness or play. Often replacing the bushing at the top of the pivot shaft and tightening or replacing the bearing/bushing that supports the worm shaft will bring the worm and gear back into proper engagement and will eliminate steering slop. I did this to my Super H a couple years ago - it completely solved a front wheel wobbling problem. And the parts (two bushings and a seal) cost less than $30. Good luck!

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
