wait till your "helpful" friend is not around. wet sand everything, Yes, that is way too much thinner. I use aout 10% thinner. Ditch the HVLP gun, they don't have enough overspray to reach into all the little nooks and crannies. wet the floor if you need to keep down the dust or move outside where you can see. I do all my painting outside and like to spray in the morning before the wind comes up. (hopefully is is tack dry before the dust starts blowing) Painting at evening is an option but I have trouble with insects landing in the paint. When you get all done and have a nice glossy job you can thank your friend and never have to tell him what you did.
