You will have to use the puller. But,don't get in a hurry with it. Use lots of tapping with a hammer on the drum. Try rocking the drum back and forth. The brake shoes are made of cast iron and tend to stick to the pivot shaft. If you have plenty of time you could remove the oil/grease zerk from the housing and try getting penetrating oil to flow to the pivot point.
If the shoes break they can be welded back together.
New linings can be custom made for less than $50.
