Clunking in my 330U turned out to be axle bearings. Two of the balls were broken right in half, when they came around to the right place, CLUNK, sounded sort of like a loose cross chain hitting the fender, did it only in high gear on the road to start with, then got worse. When I jacked it up I could wiggle the wheel up and down with a prybar. The seal on that axle was also leaking.
