Thanks Mike, I had a friend that did exactly that (.012") and his M sounded like an air raid siren. He eventially increased the backlash to 1/8th" which I think is way too much till he got it quieter. The info I keep getting is that if you had a quiet setup before and you want it again, and if you use the same gears you should have them running in the same place (ie.same backlash) in my case .055". Ive also heard that this is a particularly tricky one, common to Farmalls. Someone must have done a few of these and know the tricks! Still wouldn't swap it for another colour machine!!!!
