I don't have any insight on the particulars of a Farmall 100, but I think maybe the problem you encountered with the dealer was due to the fact that most of todays service technicians did not grow up with carburetors, or mechanical ignition systems, and they need to learn from scratch those things which are very familiar to those of us who grew up with it.
Have you noticed that they are not called mechanics any more?
