MD purchase price, condition, tires

Hello! I am going to open by apologizing for any ignorance I may express, the length of my post, and any repeated information that I may be asking for. I am new into tractors, but was turned onto this site by a friend and have enjoyed reading through the archives for a couple of hours!

Anyway, I am looking for a haying tractor. I have 45 acres in hay for which I will need to pull the necessary equipment (small baler) as well as other odds and ends that are involvled with the rest of the property. I have found a 1949 MD that appears to be in good shape. It has a Dual (sp?) front end loader. I am told that the hydrolics have been converted to a "live" pump by mounting a drive on the outside of the frame on the left side. Both the three point and the loader work under a load. The tractor started easily and warmed up fast (it was 80 degrees though.) Gears seemed to work fine, no apparant leaking of oils, hydrolics, etc . . . Generator is supposed to have been gone through and a new battery put in. The lights work, heads are not cracked, some minor welding repair on bucket, but no signs of such on castings, frame, etc. . . Needs tires bad. They have tread, but are severly cracked. It has also been painted, be it poorly, as EVERYTHING appears to have been painted, hydrolic hoses, engine parts (the paint was then wiped off of the ID plates), three point eyelets, etc. . . There appeared to be hook ups for two hydrolic hoses running to the rear of the tractor, however, only one was in place. I was told that this was because the tractor only has a single phase pump and there was no use for two lines. But why then are there two hook ups?

This tractor is at a small town dealer(? a retired gentleman who seems to be at it more for a hobby than a business). The same friend who turned me on to this site says that the guy is one of the most knowledgeable in the state (Colorado). He is asking $3950, which he says is low because of the tires. It doesn't sound all that low to me, but as I said, I am new when it comes to tractors and most of the info I've found (including on this site) has shown sale prices $1000 or more lower, but none of them have been recent and none in this area. I feel that the MD has all I need and will serve my purpose, but AM wondering what will tires run me (approx), is it a steal/good/average/high price, and is there anything else I should look for or be aware of?
He also has 2 1942 M's that he is asking $2800 and $4600 for. They have no loader or no three point respectively, but tires are in better shape. I like the idea of the diesel better, but maybe I'm way off.
