Dick, go check with your Case-IH dealer. Last soleniod I bought, for an 826, came with a plastic shield to put over the end of the soleniod. It's main purpose is to prevent you from trying to short across the terminals to try to start the tractor, but it would definetly help prevent somthing like this from happening again. Also, it is a very good idea to unhook the ground cable from the battery before working on the fuel system.
