The pulleys are made of laminated paper. The nails on the ends are just to hold on the thin metal rings that protect the edges. The nails do not go all the way through, and are only about 2 inches long. As the others said, you can get your pulley rebuilt by the outfit in Columbia, TN, but it is not cheap.
