The Super M was bored larger. You can take an M and use 4 inch pistons by using an overbore kit. They used thinner sleeves for this. You can take a Super M engine and go from a 4 inch bore to a 4.125 bore simply by using an overbore kit. These kits consisted of the larger pistons and a thinner sleeve.

You cannot take an M engine and put a 4.125 kit in it, unless you bore the engine or run it without sleeves.
