Bob: The only IH original bolt I have seen used on the entire production from 39 A to the 79 140 was the square head bolt. A hex head will work, just no way of stopping bolt head from turning. I have an after market rim on my Super A which can acomodate either a square or hex head machine bolt. The after market rims do not incorperate any system of holding the bolt head while tightening wheel nuts. I have never seen any system using a carriage bolt. I can however see the the after market rims being designed for a carriage bolt. The way in which the one I have is designed it would have been very easy to incorperate the use of a carriage bolt. As there is more than one supplier of after market rims I wouldn't want to question what you are seeing. But definately not IH.
