Dave - Sounds like your generator is not charging the battery. Punch below for a troubleshooting chart that will help figure out where the problem is. Regarding ground polarity, your tractor as originally supplied was positive ground (battery + terminal connected to ground). However it'll run/charge the battery just fine set up for negative ground (battery - terminal connected to ground) so long as the generator has been repolarized and the wires reversed at the ammeter. The Super W6-TA is not exactly a common tractor, however there are a few of them around. I saw a nicely restored example on display at the Hamlin NY show last weekend.
