OK, then you have an M bought in 1953 after the Super M's were available, 4th is 5 1/8 I believe. In this part of the country, we would probably use what is called a "border disk", to make a border or berm, and flood irrigate the area in between, most commonly used for alfalfa. A border disk is usually 6 disks placed on a tool bar in groups of three facing each other to throw the dirt inward toward each other to make a border or berm -- only one set on a tool bar. Irrigated wheat is sometimes planted that way, but most irrigated wheat, soybeans, corn around here are planted on top of 30 inch beds made with the middlebuster thing I mentioned. Good luck finding the gears. You might call Mike Bunck at Steel Wheel Ranch -- 785-548-7437. He is familiar with what will work and what won't. The 7mph 4th gear for the M is rare. Mike might recommend a whole gear set from a Super M, don't know if you want to go to that much trouble.
