You can use the original starter. If you are going to use the original coil, drop one of those old MOPAR resistors in series with the coil feed wire. You would need to ensure that your light bulbs are 12 volts. If you switch to an alternator, you would need to change from positive ground to negative ground. After doing that, you might want to reverse your ammeter leads. BTW, if you decide to switch to an alternator, the Delco 10SI can be had quite inexpensively. If space is a problem, search your local junkyard for a Nippondenso out of an old mid-80's small Toyota. They are reliable alternators and about as easy to wire as a Delco.
