I bought the cheap green one at home depot although the price is admittedly ridiculous, if you price around you will find that they are not way over the price of a typical MTD mower and they did appear to be a little better constructed(powdercoated deck, Plastic hood won't rust, heavier front axle...etc) hold it don't go buy one yet.
We were having troubles starting it just after we got it...it acted like a dead spot in the starter...so we phoned HD and asked them about the waranty they sent us to John Deere They ended up replacing the Briggs & Stratten because there was some sort of flaw in the design of the decompression system no problem they fixed me right up just after that the sidewall blew out of the front tire...back to John Deere we go.... no problem once again they fix us up just as I would expect a Good Company like John Deere would do.
Now with all this great service some of you might not see why I would have any reason to be upset...Like I told the Guy at the Shop if I wanted to run around chasing lawnmower parts and comming home to my grass that should have been cut when my my lawnmower was down I would have kept my 8 year old craftsmen.
It's worked real good since we got those first glitches fixed....would I buy another one? Ask me in 8 years
Jim
