I have recently picked up a 1956 IHC 300 Utility. Unfortunately, this tractor is not equipped with PTO. It is my understanding that both "dependent" and "independent" PTO were offered on these tractors. I am interested finding out more information about how I might get PTO for the tractor (IPTO would be preferred for the obvious reasons). Does anyone know what a modification like this might involve? Assuming that I could actually find an IPTO unit, could it be as easy as a bolt-on addition? Does the output shaft to drive the PTO actually exist behind the cover plate I have currently (I have yet to check). Or, would I have to deal with more difficult transmission issues? Also, is anyone familiar with parts interchangeability w.r.t. IPTO units. Do I have to find a Utility-based unit? I have seen similar IPTO units on utility and row-crop tractors (with slightly different actuating levers). Any and all information would be appreciated.
