Clutch problem with Super C

I need help with a problem. I have a Super C that has been sitting for @2 years waiting for me to replace the head gasket which I finally did a couple of weeks ago. Charged up the battery and ole bessie fired right up. However, when I pushed in the clutch pedal to put it into 1st gear it sounded like I had forgot to step on the clutch pedal. I have never had a problem with the clutch or getting it into gear which is why I am stumped. Anyone out there have any idea why this is happening and what I can do? Thanks Ken
